I've always wanted to have a Jesse tree during advent, but I've not found a Jesse tree devotion book and or ornaments for the tree that I really liked until now. A friend mentioned on facebook last year about this
Free Jesse Tree Advent Devotion book. So this year, I downloaded a copy. I love the way that Ann Voscamp and Nancy Rodden have put the book together. AND the ornaments for each day are pretty and not plain. I simply printed them and glued them to construction paper, punched a hole and added ribbon to hang on our Jesse tree. Our tree is simply a branch painted silver and white and anchored in a pot of rocks. Each night we read the Bible reading and devotion and hang the ornament for the day on our tree that we have placed by the fire place. For us, this is a new tradition, one that we are enjoying and one that I've always wanted to do, but have finally started...better late than never, right?
I had K,S and J pose by the tree this morning...Z had already rushed out the door to his church where he works so he missed out on the Kodak moment.

We took a 3 ring binder to hold the devotion booklet.
We put our kid friendly nativity at the base of the tree. I bought this one from Avon when Zach was a baby.
The printable ornaments are in color and beautiful.
Each devotion shows the coming Messiah from the Old Testament forward. The Jesse Tree is a wonderful way to prepare for Christmas.

I'll have to add that resource to my files in case I return to the director of Christian education work that I used to do. I've got several Jesse tree books, but mostly just ornament outlines.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful idea! :)
ReplyDeleteI love this idea and if it's Ann Voskamp, then it must be amazing!
